This was initially supposed to be a skincare routine post, but I ended up ranting and raving about the Eve Lom cleanser, so much so that I figured it deserved its own exclusive piece – about why it is so good and why I cannot live without it.
Excuse me where I start off a little defensive and huffy around some of the misunderstandings about this product. Any beauty product connoisseur will know why the Eve Lom cleanser has had a marmite reaction, especially in the blogger world. Thankfully Vogue have described this product as “…the best cleanser in the world.”
Firstly, there is a distinct difference between expensive and overpriced. For the results this cleanser has delivered to my face and to my life, I am prepared to get shouty with anyone who suggests £85 for 7 months of happy, glowing and baby soft skin, is overpriced. It is expensive? yes, yes it is… but if you would spend £85 on a pair of shoes, or on a night out, why on earth would you not spend this on your face?
As for the debate over mineral oil – this ingredient is very unreactive, unlike MANY essential oils
*cough* Moringa. Have you ever met someone who is allergic to vaseline? No, me neither. Just like highly regarded La Mer and Clarins products, the Eve Lom cleanser has a base of the very purest quality mineral oil – as a binding agent if you will, that gives all the other expensive and effective ingredients something to melt into. Mineral oil also is the perfect texture to aid the facial massage where in my humble opinion – other oils are too slippery and creams are too drying. Sorrynotsorry. At 24, I’m no expert… but Lisa Eldridge is, and she LOVES the Eve Lom cleanser, her skin also happens to looks incredible. NEED I GO ON? (oh I really could).
Most importantly for me, this works. It works so beautifully that all the cleansing oils, creams and balms I try from brands like Emma Hardie, Nude and Darphin do not touch this cleanser, that’s not to say I don’t like them but they are simply not as good, for me. I love the rich emollient texture that provides enough grip for a good massage, annihilating all my makeup as it goes. Rather conveniently, I have not bought any eye makeup remover since using this cleanser… 16 months ago. I can rub it right into my lashes and take everything off with a hot flannel.
Eve Lom say the following about this cult product:
“With a powerful blend of Egyptian chamomile, hops, clove and eucalyptus oil, together with cocoa butter the Eve Lom Cleanser cleanses, tones, exfoliates all in one. Even the most stubborn make-up and eye make-up will be removed. The specially woven muslin cloth (100% cotton) is used with the Cleanser to improve skin circulation while cleansing and exfoliating the skin in minutes. The result is clean, perfectly balanced skin and a radiant complexion. Suitable for all skin types.”
So what are the ingredients doing for your skin?
- Chamomile soothes and calms any redness
- Hops brighten the skin and enhance tone
- Eucaliptus is a natural anti-inflamatory
- Cocoa butter is loaded with antioxidants, can help fade marks and scars i.e. from blemishes and provides deep hydration
After using this cleanser every night and a tiny bit in the morning, my skin is gorgeously soft and plump. It also helps reduce my occasional hormonal blemishes. Something worth noting is how I prefer a cotton flannel over the muslin cloths. I find a flannel holds more heat and is less flimsy when it comes to pressing into my skin and sliding off all the London grime.
I appreciate that what suits me doesn’t suit everyone, so I recommend if you haven’t tried this, pop into Space NK and grab a sample, they are always really helpful like that! This cleanser might change your life.
