I feel a pang of guilt at posting this; as a devotee of NARS Sheer Glow for 4 years now, I dabbled with other foundations, and returned straight back to NARS. This blog post here… this is no dabble. I have used my Armani Luminous Silk foundation for a month, uninterrupted as Sheer Glow sits, unloved in a drawer. My guilt is meshed with a flutter of excitement for a new era in my makeup journey. Only a true beauty junkie will understand this feeling of elation, having found “the one”.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation is an industry staple, in the kit of most bridal artists, TV/Media artists, and a prized favourite with likes of Mary Phillips and Mario (he doesn’t need a surname!). You can buy it here.
About a month ago I was matched to a sample and tried it alone, only to receive many compliments that day on my flawless, glowing, perfect skin… I immediately had to buy a bottle.
Musings on how this compares to my ex favourite, NARS Sheer Glow…
Pictured grinning below, I am in no other makeup than 1.5 pumps of Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. This is genuinely all I wear to work when I’m in a rush! Compared to NARS Sheer Glow, I think this shade number 5 is perfect for me. The true neutral undertone of beige works beautifully on my skin. My major gripe with NARS was the fact that I didn’t sit perfectly with one shade, it was either too yellow (Fiji) or too apricot (Sante Fe), and these shades always looked better when I had used some Xen Tan. The formula feels much finer and silkier than Sheer Glow. It photographs like a poreless velvety dream, which is why many artists use it for weddings. Luminous Silk does indeed give more glow, and looks much more like naked skin. Much like Sheer glow, the coverage is similar – a good medium that can be sheered to nothing or built up.
Who is it for?
Anyone with normal, dry or very dry skin. Oily gals should try the lasting silk version.
Quantity in Bottle?
Glass bottle, beautifully designed with a PUMP, yes the pump comes with the foundation (take note NARS!).
I absolutely do NOT recommend this for oily skin types, it will slip right off your skin. It is pricey, but investing in a good foundation is important, so I really don’t care.
Unlike NARS Sheer Glow, this applies BEST with a brush. I have used both flat foundation brushes and flat-topped buffing brushes and been amazed by the finish. It applies nicely with fingers, but something about the fine, silky texture was designed to work with a brush.
